Fresh gunfire at Indian air force base in Punjab
He also lauded the way the security agencies foiled the terror attack and fought against terrorists in Pathankot.

Various sources said the terrorists stormed into the base around 3 am yesterday, wearing military fatigues and reportedly using an official vehicle to reach near the air base.
Gunshots and a blast were heard from the Indian Air Force (IAF) frontier base near Pathankot town on Sunday morning leading to speculation that one more terrorist could still be holed up inside.
D’Silva gave no details about the death of an elite commando Sunday morning, except to say that he was seriously wounded in a blast.
“Because of early action, the terrorists were unable to move to their likely intended aim but were contained in an area of growth of trees and shrubs”, Rajiv Mehrishi, a Home Ministry official, told reporters in New Delhi.
Officials said the Saturday assault bore the hallmarks of previous attacks by Pakistan-based militant groups, adding that police were investigating the case.
The attack by gunmen disguised as soldiers came a week after Modi made an unscheduled visit to Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in an effort to revive talks between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
The Pathankot airbase is about 430 km north of the Indian capital New Delhi and adjacent to Indian-controlled Kashmir. The attacked air base is located on the road to the Kashmir region, disputed by India and Pakistan for nearly 70 years.
Security forces initially said there were four attackers, who had all been shot dead in a 14-hour gun battle to secure the base.
The Pathankot air base houses dozens of jet fighters and is important for its strategic location about 50km from the Pakistan border.
Pakistan denies these allegations, claiming it provides Kashmiri separatists only moral and political support for their cause of an independent Muslim homeland.
The strike that triggered a 15-hour gunbattle on Saturday is believed to have been an attempt to undo recent progress in India’s relationship with Pakistan.
Pakistan and India have been engaged in hostility over Kashmir ever since their independence from British rule and their partition in 1947.
Ahead of Modi’s visit to Pakistan, the national security advisers of both countries had met in Thailand.
Pakistan moved quickly to condemn the attack, describing it as a “terrorist incident”.
Talks had been stalled over numerous contentious issues, particularly the November 2008 attack by 10 Pakistani gunmen on two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre in Mumbai, in which over 166 people died.
“Whoever is finally identified, it will be the same Pakistan-based terror formations and these have long experience of attacking military and police establishments”, said Ajay Sahni, the head of the Institute for Conflict Management in New Delhi. The foreign secretaries of both nations are scheduled to meet in Islamabad later this month.

India also wants LeT leaders responsible for planning the Mumbai attack prosecuted, a demand that has been thwarted by Islamabad.
