Didn’t bother about vote bank for odd-even scheme: Arvind Kejriwal

Even-numbered cars rolled out on Delhi streets and the odd-numbered ones stayed largely off the roads on the second day today of the odd-even vehicular restriction trial in Delhi which saw Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia cycle to office.

Steelers beat Browns 28-12, slide into AFC playoffs
The Steelers (10-6) earned a wild-card berth as a result of their win and the Buffalo Bills’ 22-17 victory over the New York Jets. This is a lot of points to lay on a road team but the Browns aren’t going to match what Ben Roethlisberger and Co.do offensively.

Earlier in the day Bassi had once again appealed to people to cooperate with his force throughout the 15 days that the initiative will be in force.

Jets loss to Bills sends Pittsburgh into AFC playoffs
Pettine enters with a 10-21 record , a mark made worse by the Browns’ disappointing performance on defense this season. However, a Steelers win coupled with a Jets loss to Buffalo would propel the Black and Gold into the playoff picture .

The scheme allows cars with odd-numbered registration plates running on odd dates and even-numbered ones on even dates. However, Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s chief minister, claimed success and said: “The people of Delhi have shown the central government”.

However, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Shia cleric had been executed for his opposition to Saudi Arabia’s Sunni rulers. Hundreds of protesters later demonstrated in front of the embassy and in a central Tehran square.

“I can’t believe it. All I see is even-numbered cars”. “I didn’t know”, he said ruefully.

Delhi has an estimated 7.5 million registered vehicles, including many that run on highly polluting diesel.

The AAP government is gearing up for Monday – which is considered as a big test – because offices will reopen after a long weekend.

On Day 2 of the scheme, Delhi transport minister Gopla Rai felt that the odd-even policy has woken up Delhiites to a “a new, collective consciousness”, to contribute towards efforts for lowering pollution. “We had to make the public aware and take them along so that people follow it voluntary”, he said. Their statements were contradicted by The Energy and Resources Institute, which said pollution levels were worse than that on December 31 and exceeded prescribed limits. According to the World Health Organization, 13 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India.

On majority of locations, the level of particulate matters – PM 2.5 and PM 10.0 – shows a “marked decrease” when compared with same dates and times of previous years, government in a statement said.

These fine particles, less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter, are linked to higher rates of chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and heart disease after settling into lungs and passing into the bloodstream.

Plans to lower the city’s pollution levels included shutting down one of the oldest and least-efficient power plants, a temporary ban on the sale of large diesel vehicles and a stiff toll for pollution-spewing trucks entering the Indian capital.
