Cleveland Browns fire head coach Mike Pettine, GM Ray Farmer
Pettine had two years left on his contract, but Haslam and his wife, Dee, aren’t happy with the direction of their franchise. But if the Browns do have any hope of maxing out Manziel’s ability, Gase’s talented offensive mind would come in handy.

Canada’s Travis Dermott (L), Travis Konecny (17), Lawson Crouse (28) and Haydn Fleury (4) celebrate after winning the 2016 IIHF World Junior U20 Ice Hockey Championships tournament match Switzerland vs Canada in Helsinki, Finland on December 29, 2015.

India says search for attackers at air base still not over
India is likely to inform Pakistan that terror and talks can’t go further without action on these groups. Intermittent firing continued in the air base on Monday, with fresh enforcements being rushed in.

The Finns would answer just before the end of the first period.

IS leader says ‘caliphate’ well, mocks Saudi-led alliance
It was the alliance’s second major operation, after clearing IS from some 200 villages in the northeastern province of Hasakeh. In an online message, Sherfan Darwish, spokesman for an Arab rebel group in the SDF, wrote, “Congratulations to our peoples”.

Forward Sebastian Aho (CAR) has been a part of a Finnish first line that has been an offensive juggernaut at this tournament. Canada didn’t score on a five-minute man advantage against the USA, nor did it on a five-on-three against the Swiss. The primary example was Jake Virtanen, who likely capped off a miserable tournament with his worst game. The goal to put the Canadians up 3-2 would prompt a Finnish goaltending change-Kaapo Kahkonen coming in relief for Veini Vehvilainen, who allowed three goals on nine shots.

But it was his undisciplined play away from the puck against the Finns – which continued from the final group-play game against Sweden – that hurt his team’s chances the most.

Patrik Laine’s power-play goal with 5:50 remaining earned Finland a wild victory.

Canada led 2-0 before Laine scored with 11.3 seconds left in the first.

Blackwood missed the first two games of the world junior hockey championship as he completed an eight-game suspension from the Ontario Hockey League. Although his skill did stand out, he ended the tournament with only no goals and 1 assist, but it wasn’t his lack of point production that helped drag the team down, it was his discipline.

As disappointing as it may have been to watch Team Canada lose, it was a great game of back and forth hockey that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout all three periods.

Canada had one easy game in the entire tournament, a 6-1 win over Denmark; the same Danish team that took a top-seeded Russian Federation team to overtime in a quarter-final game on Saturday. At the second intermission the Canadians trailed 4-3.

Canada would not trail for long.

Mitch Marner had a pair of thrid period goals for Canada in a losing effort. Shortly after, defenceman Joe Hicketts received a delay-of-game penalty for shooting the puck the length over the ice and over the glass behind Finland’s net.

The U-S takes on the Czech Republic in the other quarter-final games.

Canada lost to the United States, Sweden and Finland.

“Canada was so close but they shot themselves in the foot”, Wilson said Sunday after his team’s practice. Even when outshooting opponents by a decent margin, as they did on Saturday 34-25, the shot selection was at times passive. That trend looks to continue. Puljujarvi (10), Aho (7) and Laine (7) now lead the tournament in points. The Swedes dispatched Slovakia 6-0 in their quarter-final match. The semifinals will start on Monday.

Strome also finished the tournament with four goals and two assists. “New Year, no one cares about the round robin”.

Critics of this team suggested before the event started that Canada didn’t have enough scorers and might not have taken the 20 best players.
