The news of the West Bank incident comes just hours after Jerusalem police gunned down a Palestinian in the Old City.
The Palestinian, 26, from east Jerusalem, pulled out a knife from his pocket and attempted to stab one of them.
A soldier was wounded and forces responded, firing at the perpetrator, a statement said.
In today’s Huwara incident, the army said a second soldier may have been hit by fire from his own side but it was still investigating. Both are in their 20s.
Weeks before, two 16-year-old Palestinians were shot dead at the checkpoint, one of whom was run over and shot by prominent Israeli settler Gershon Mesika after he said she was attempting to carry out an attack.
The attempted car-ramming came shortly after a Palestinian was killed in clashes with Israeli forces near the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, said a spokesman for the Palestinian health ministry of the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave.
The Huwwara area – particularly the military checkpoint next to the village – has been site to frequent confrontation between local Palestinians and Israeli military and settlers in recent months.
A Palestinian man was arrested Sunday afternoon in the Old City of Jerusalem after security forces believed him to be acting suspiciously.
Since the start of October, Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 130 Palestinians, 81 of whom authorities described as assailants.
She says the Israeli police took cover and shot at the driver, who died on the scene.
Israel says the unrelenting violence is fanned by a Palestinian campaign of lies and incitement.

According to the report, the overture was made during a meeting between then-Interior Minister Silvan Shalom and head of the Palestinian negotiating team, Saeb Erakat at a meeting in July in Amman, Jordan.
