Louis van Gaal: Man Utd win can be ‘fantastic’ start to 2016
Louis van Gaal accused Swansea of putting ten behind the ball and wasting time in Manchester United’s win over Alan Curtis’ side at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils ended a run of eight games without a win as they battled past the Swans.
Van Gaal had backed Wayne Rooney to deliver 25 goals this season, but at the halfway point he has found the net just twice in the league while Anthony Martial has struggled to maintain the prolific scoring rate he enjoyed shortly after moving to Old Trafford. I think we played very risky, very attacking, with three defenders, but we wanted to win and scored two fantastic goals today.
At the halftime whistle, United had failed to score a first-half goal again.
“That was something not many players can do”, Fabianski said after the game.
Wayne Rooney’s goal drought for United lasted nine hours and 13 minutes before he scored the victor against Swansea. “I am very happy for him and I hope it shall give him the boost he needs to continue”.
The win lifts United to fifth in the Premier League. So that’s football. That’s a season.
Van Gaal’s judgement will be further questioned after it emerged on Friday night that Hernandez, who joined Bayer Leverkusen for £12million after spending the Dutchman’s first season in charge out on loan, has won the Bundesliga’s Player of the Month award for the second month running.
“I liked him also against Chelsea, that’s why I said after the game that he had played two fantastic games in a row”, added van Gaal, who has retained the support of United’s board but whose position still looks a lot more secure than it did just over a week ago. “We needed that”, manager Arsene Wenger said of Cech.
“He scored a fantastic goal, with his left foot behind his right foot and you can not imagine what a goal that is”, the United manager said.
“How many players have had the chances to score and why they didn’t score?”
If we had kept all of the strikers, the pressure is from the others, (to see) who is playing, who is sitting on the bench.
‘The pressure is lowering, and I think the performance shall be better every week now’.
Arsenal extended its lead of the English Premier League to two points by overcoming Newcastle 1-0 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
