Van Gaal hints United will sign a striker
United defeated Swansea 2-1 yesterday, with Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney both on the scoresheet.

The Manchester United captain scored his first Premier League goal in over two months against Swansea on Saturday but has managed just eight club strikes all season.
Van Gaal may say he enjoys the backing of the United board, and has backtracked on previous comments that he could quit as manager, but there might be no way back if Swansea leaves Old Trafford with three points. It was a much more positive performance from Rooney and he scored the all important victor in a handsome manner. It was a great goal, though, with his left foot behind his right foot you can not imagine what a goal that is.
Van Gaal revealed how anger over their wretched run, prior to the draw with Chelsea, had fired up the players.
But despite second-half goals from Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney either side of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s header giving the Dutchman his debut win over Swansea, it didn’t stop him hitting out at their negative tactics.
Summer signing Matteo Darmian watched the first 45 minutes from the bench but he was called on at half-time to replace the injured Phil Jones, making his 22nd appearance of the season in the process.
He hadn’t scored for 553 minutes in all competitions for United and there has been talk of him not deserving the place most assume he will have in the England squad for this summer’s European Championships.
“It’s incredible that you can perform the game plan like we have done, in a risky style, under this pressure, ” Van Gaal said.
The victory moves Van Gaal’s side up to fifth in the table, while Swansea remain two points above the relegation zone. “And when we score goals and we create always chances”.
He said: “In the first half we played with three defenders, a risky shape, a risky system”. “They are also not used to that, I’m not used to that, losing four matches in a row”.
Rooney has arguably been the most disappointing player of the season, not just at Manchester United but in the league as a whole.
“We have said before he was playing at 16, so, in reality terms he’s maybe like a 33 or 34-year-old player”, he told Sky Sports.
“The opponent is also playing in a way that makes it hard to score, with 10 players behind the middle line. We were lucky it was wide of our goal because it was a very good header and he was free”, the 64 year-old added.

And this is what the manager said about the English player’s feat: “It’s incredible, and at the age of 30 years”.
