Bill Belichick disappointed Chip Kelly didn’t get more time
Chip is a great coach.

Many people were shocked that it took this long, but Chip Kelly was officially welcomed to life in the National Football League on Tuesday afternoon when the Philadelphia Eagles fired the controversial coach with one week left in the regular season. Some players that he traded away-cornerback Brandon Boykin and running back LeSean McCoy-talked about it once the trades were done.
An anonymous Eagles player also cited Kelly’s inflexibility and refusal to listen to others as a huge issue, a sentiment which Johnson echoed. When he was the head coach of the Eagles, he never had anything bad to say about his players, despite former players talking about how much they didn’t like Kelly.
“Chip Kelly to me is a really good football coach”, Belichick told New England reporters. “But pretty much everybody’s on a one-year contract in this league”.
“You know you’re going to get a great offensive team out of him”, said wide receiver Bralon Addison, who played in Kelly’s blur offense as a freshman.
“It was a clear and important decision that had to be made”, he said, adding that he didn’t offer to keep Kelly on as the coach and strip him of personnel control. He does a great job. Coach Pat Shurmer will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. “It’s disappointing to see”, Belichick said.
Kelly took over for the longtime Philadelphia coach Andy Reid after the 2012 season and turned a team that had been 4-12 into a 10-6 champion of the NFC East. “You always want anybody that has been a part of this program to have success later on”.
Dick Vermeil, arguably the best coach that the Eagles have ever had, believed Chip Kelly would be the one who would lead the franchise to its first Super Bowl championship. There’s no denying it, but there were also many who claimed they had a good relationship with and even liked the guy.
“Most importantly, however, was the opportunity to spend a lot of time with our players and I’ve already started that process”. Just a lot of tension up there that didn’t need to happen, because when you throw it up there it does trickle down to the team, and the team knows what’s going on. “I know a lot of teams are probably hanging their tongues out for him now”.
Chip Kelly was sacked because he didn’t win enough games in 2015 and he clearly mismanaged things with the Philadelphia Eagles. I don’t think there’s any shortcut to it.

Kelly quickly tore apart a winning team and made several bold moves that backfired. He didn’t make every last player in that room feel as though he was accessible.
