Iran Fired Rockets Near Our Warships
USA officials say the Iranian Revolutionary Guards fired unguided rockets just 1,500 yards from the USS Harry S. Truman and other ships, calling the move “highly provocative”.

“Guards’ naval force had no exercise in the past week when the Americans claim that a missile or rocket was sacked in the Hormuz Strait area”, General Ramezan Sharid said in a statement on the Guards’ website.
According to the US military, IRGC naval forces fired numerous rockets Saturday, which hit just about a mile away from the USS Harry S. Truman in the Strait of Hormuz, AFP reports.
U.S. Sen. John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, responded to Saturday’s incident with renewed criticism of the nuclear deal with Iran.
“Publishing such lies in the current situation is more a psychological operation”, he said.
The strategic Persian Gulf waterway, which sees almost a third of all oil traded by sea pass through it, has been the scene of past confrontations between America and Iran, including a one-day naval battle in 1988. “The Guards conduct exercises to increase our required preparedness at due times, based on our own schedule”.
While heralded by moderates, such as Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, hardliners in Tehran have denounced the agreement as being against national interests.
Several Republicans running for the White House have pledged to rip up the deal if they are elected in November 2016.
Iranian media and officials did not immediately discuss the tests Wednesday.
The Treasury Department will announce sanctions against both companies and individuals who have ties to Iran’s ballistic-missile program, Bloomberg Business reported. Iran denied that rocket test Thursday, claiming that the reports were false.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said such new penalties would nullify the nuclear accord.
“Iran’s missile program has nothing to do with the recent agreement over Iran’s nuclear program, and nothing can prevent Iran from its legitimate and legal right to strengthen its defensive foundations and national security”, he said.

For its part, Iran has tested a long-range guided ballistic missile, escalated its cyberespionage program against the US, and cracked down on journalists, activists and opposition figures.
