Alabama pastor finds church collapsed in storm
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Residents in northern Alabama were warned to be alert for moderate to severe flooding Saturday, a day after a tornado briefly touched down in the state’s most populous city but caused only a hint of damage.

Other Alabama communities are assessing storm damage caused by flooding.
The Texas tornadoes followed days of tumultuous weather in the Southeast including unusual winter tornadoes that left 18 people dead there over the Christmas holiday period.
More than 20 Alabama counties were reporting washed out roads and bridges, Faulkner said.
Among the dead were eight people from MS, including a seven-year-old boy who perished while riding in a vehicle that was swept up and tossed by storm winds.
Daisy Johnson, 68, said she and her husband rushed along with other relatives to their storm shelter across the street after they heard a tornado was headed their way. They carried some of the couple’s belongings past a Santa Claus figure on a table.
Severe flooding also hit much of the city, with crews using boats to rescue people from submerged cars.
In a statement Friday evening, the agency said Coahoma County has now reported one death, and Benton County has reported another missing person.
The emergency manager of Ellis county south of Dallas, Stephanie Parker, posted on twitter: “We have destroyed and damaged homes”. Perkins and her husband endured the storm by hiding in a closet. Two died in a home nearby.
Tennessee and MS also were recovering this weekend after another tornado wreaked havoc over a 100-mile stretch in the two states, decimating at least a dozen homes and buildings. Cruz Hernandez said several people were injured although the exact number was known. National Weather Service meteorologist Jody Aaron said the twister was confirmed at about 5 pm local time yesterday, adding, “There does appear to be some significant damage”.
“When they tell you take cover, take cover”, she said.
MORE SHOWERS WEDNESDAY/BIRMINGHAM BOWL/COTTON BOWL: We will catch a break in the heavier rain on Tuesday, but there may be an isolated shower to the east as this system stalls again.

Deadly storms like the ones that came through during Christmas week are quite unusual as tornado season in the South does not start until early Spring.
