READ: Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach mourns her friend’s death
At the end of the contest on Dec 20, host Steve Harvey handed the crown to a jubilant Miss Gutierrez, only to realise he had made an error.

Some, including former pageant owner Donald Trump, suggested Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines share the crown, but Wurtzbach told Spencer that probably wouldn’t be a realistic solution.
Filipina beauty queen Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach mourns the death of one of her closest friends.
“I was disconnected. I haven’t received phone calls from anyone”. “I asked her how she’s doing… she’s OK”. I heard from the news that something had happened and they announced the wrong victor.
Pia Wurtzbach is finally crowned Miss Universe after Steve Harvey’s infamous flub.
It was very humiliating for me, but also for the whole country and for all the people, not only (those) from Colombia, but the other Latinos that were in the auditorium.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez thinks splitting the title is a great idea, though. Gutierrez was accidentally named the victor in Las Vegas earlier this month after host Steve Harvey misread his cue cards.
“I thought it was a joke”, she said.
Still, Miss Gutierrez stressed that she was looking on the bright side.
While we can probably think of greater and more devastating injustices in the world, it’s hard not to feel bad for and empathize with Gutierrez, who described the incident as a “great shock” that devastated her longtime dream: “I have always dreamed of this, of being Miss Universe…”

On the other hand, Gutierrez has had enough time to grieve over her loss and she is optimistic about the future as there have been a good number of job opportunities offered to her. She also said she has been offered a job in the United States, which is a good start as she moves on from the humiliating experience. “I understand. It was his first time to judge a pageant, but it’s OK”.
