Texans win AFC South title with 30-6 win over Jaguars
The Saints’ 20-17 win over the Falcons sealed the division title for the Texans by way of a strength-of-schedule tiebreaker over the Colts.

En route to the franchise’s first division championship in three seasons, it wasn’t surprising who stepped up to deliver for the Texans.
No division championship in the AFC South is going to convince the National Football League that the Texans are real players in the postseason, but they have an opportunity at home in the wild-card round to change that perception in a big way and prove themselves as AFC contenders. “We’ve got to handle it one game at a time like we’ve been doing since we were 2-5, not looking forward, but handling it game to game”.
“It’s a good thing”, coach Bill O’Brien said.
They rolled over the Jaguars by harassing Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles, who was sacked seven times. That’s a hell of a season for anyone, let alone a second-year man on a historically bad team. After a pair of losses gave them a losing record once again, the Texans turned up the heat late and are riding a three-game winning streak into the playoffs.
The Houston Texans (8-7) are coming from a 34-6 win over the Tennessee Titans. They also amassed eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions with one of them being taken to the house for a touchdown by Kareem Jackson. Brandon Weeden threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns in 15 of 24 passes.
After a ferocious collision on the field Sunday, veteran Texans offensive lineman Duane Brown went down in the first half while blocking for an Alfred Blue run. They dig deep within their playbooks every game to get the offense rolling, and find success most of the time.
-LB Whitney Mercilus became the first player in franchise history with two career games with 3.5 sacks.
They’re not anxious about most of those scenarios because they know the easiest way to secure their spot in the playoffs is to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in the regular-season finale.

Injuries, malcontents and poor play were part of the season for the Texans until they turned a corner after getting embarrassed, 44-26, by the Miami Dolphins on October 25.
