Lightning sends Drouin to AHL
“On behalf of Jonathan Drouin, I formally requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning back in November”, Drouin’s agent, Allan Walsh, said in a statement released to media.

“We acknowledge, via communication from his agent, Jonathan Drouin’s request to be traded”, Yzerman said.
“It not only was one of our better starts, it was probably the best first period we played all year”, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said.
Boiled down, Yzerman said he will make moves based on the best interests of the Lightning, not that of an individual player.
Drouin, the third overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft, was optioned to the AHL on January 2, 2016 after tallying two goals and nine points in only 19 games this season.
On Saturday, he was sent to the American Hockey League with the Syracuse Crunch, for more playing time and work on his game.
Tampa Bay LightningFor the first time in the 2015-2016 season, the Tampa Bay Lightning came out to a roaring start against the Minnesota Wild.
This season Drouin enjoyed a strong training camp, leading the team with four goals and eight points during the preseason and spoke of finding confidence in his game.
In both instances, the teams that dealt the younger players didn’t receive good value based on the stars the traded players became.
Vasilevskiy, recalled from Syracuse of the AHL Friday, made three more saves during the shootout. Ben Bishop, who has played in 31 games this season, was the backup one day after leaving practice early with an undisclosed issue. It was his honest intention to play in Tampa many years.
“Well, the No. 1 thing I wonder is does Yzerman believe he has to send the kid West. Is that something he’s looking at, saying, ‘I don’t want this kid in the Eastern Conference making me look bad.’ So I don’t know the answer to that question, but I’m curious about it”. “One, he needs to stay healthy and get in the lineup and show what he can do”.
“For somebody who’s missed as many games as he has and to play the way he did tonight, he was a difference maker tonight”, Cooper said. Minnesota D Ryan Suter is second on the team in assists (19) and trails only Ottawa D Erik Karlsson in average ice time (28:09)2.
Valtteri Filppula and Nikita Kucherov scored in regulation for the Lightning, who went 3-2-1 on a six-game homestand. It certainly gave Andrej Sustr a long leash, allowing him to play through the expected growing pains of a young defenseman the past two seasons.
