Mr Singh, who arrived here on a two-day visit of Assam, went to see the Stemerghat border out-posts in Karimganj district and regretted that the global border which was still porous should have been sealed long ago.
Taking political leaders ignoring Government officials to solve a problem, where the state’s interest is involved, is not done and “it also exposes the partisan attitude of none other than the Union Home Minister”, he added.
“There are several gaps in the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhubri district”.
Gogoi said Rajnath Singh’s action was tantamount to negating the constitutional provisions where law and order is a state subject. “Based on this, the riverine border will be fenced”, he said. Union Sports minister Sarbanand Sonowal and representatives of All Assam Students Union will also accompany the Home minister.
“I am trying to contact people and am monitoring the situation”.
“I strongly felt the tremor today”.
According to the regional seismological centre in Meghalaya, an quake of moderate intensity rocked India’s northeastern states and adjoining Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan at 4.35 a.m. on Monday.
Meanwhile, a team from the National Disaster Response Force has been instructed to move from Guwahati to the areas affected by the quake, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
