Afridi happy to have Amir back

But yes, the process has been rushed just to accommodate him and I think Pakistan needed to give more time to the entire squad to soak it in.

Amir was one of three Pakistan players banned and handed jail sentences for their role in the 2010 scandal at Lord’s, when he and fellow quick Mohammad Asif deliberately bowled no-balls in coercion with captain Salman Butt.

“On his global comeback, Amir will travel with the team subject to grant of visa by the New Zealand government”, chief selector Haroon Rasheed said in a statement Friday.

“If he gets out on the field against us, then you play against the man you’re playing against, not a man who may have made some mistakes as a youngster”, he further added.

Hafeez, who has also been named in the squad, in November said that he would not be in the same team as Amir. “We now need to move on and I will back Amir and expect him to serve Pakistan cricket with total dedication and commitment”.

Last week Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali left a training camp which Amir was attending in protest at his prospective selection.

He was relaxed in April past year, however he was completely eligible in September to play worldwide cricket. “I personally would never want them to be a part of the PSL as it is going to be extremely unsafe for the model of the event and image of Pakistan cricket”, the former player said.

While he admitted that the reason for Amir’s rapid rise back into contention is his undeniable talent, he is surprised at the exclusion of Mohammad Irfan.

ODI squad: Azhar Ali (captain), Mohammed Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Sohaib Maqsood, Shoaib Malik, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Zafar Gohar, Imad Wasim, Anwar Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Rahat Ali, Mohammed Irfan, Mohammed Rizwan, Mohammed Amir.

Pakistan’s T20 captain Shahid Afridi has backed the return of tainted left-arm pacer Muhammad Aamir to worldwide cricket and insisted he deserved a second chance for speaking the truth.
