DeMarco demurs on post-firing Chip chat

One could argue he is another in the long line of New England assistants that have failed to recapture the Belichick magic elsewhere.

While the Eagles’ disappointing 6-9 record was a major reason for Kelly’s dismissal, it was more than that. “This was really a three-year evaluation of where we’re heading, what is the trajectory, what is the progress or lack thereof and what do I foresee for the future”.

Fired Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly said Wednesday night that he was “grateful” and “blessed” to coach the team. He does a great job, he’s done a good job with that team.

Lurie admitted it was a “bold move” on his part to give Kelly personnel control after back-to-back 10-6 seasons, feeling at the time he had to give the head coach the power to pick his players. It takes some time to go through that. Pete Carroll allows players to blare rap music during one of his weekly practices.

“It was a surprise, but we were not playing up to our standards, the Eagles’ standards”, tight end Zach Ertz said. “I kind of feel not this year, but next year, Chip Kelly is going to be back in college football”.

“Probably ’03, just because of everything”, Belichick said.

“I signed a four- or five-year deal and I think this is where I’ll be”, Murray said.

But his second team, in 2001, won the Super Bowl. “I just think it didn’t work out for him in certain places”.

“I mean, I know there’s a lot of other people in the league who think there is”.

“Because of everything – you have to change the culture”.

Now he is one of the high-profile coaches on the market as the offseason approaches.

The Eagles would be a shade more attractive to Bradford if they took the interim tag off Shurmur. The coach that comes in usually has a different philosophy than the coach that left, so you have to try to implement that philosophy.

“I’m a quiet guy”. Lurie reiterated that many variables went into the decision, that in order to achieve peak performance, you need to have “collaboration, trust, respect, smartness, agility”. Johnson unloaded on the former coach shortly after his firing, opening up to the media to provide some details into why the team may have parted ways with the man they put so much trust into. “But that wasn’t the case in ’02”.

“Obviously you want someone who has a strong work ethic and definitely someone who works extremely hard and has a connection with the players, mentally and emotionally as well”, Murray said. As for Kelly, uncertainty looms; though he’s someone with enough experience to easily find a coaching job even before the start of next season.
