USA Today reports Monday evening OU quarterback Trevor Knight is going to transfer to the Aggies where he will be immediately eligible to play in the 2016 season since he will be a graduate transfer.

If Texas A&M fourth-year coach Kevin Sumlin truly intends to coach the Aggies in 2016, he’ll need to speak up soon if only to reassure his recruiting class planning to sign on the dotted line in about a month.

Texas A&M made a long-expected move official Sunday, as offensive coordinator Jake Spavital and A&M “mutually chose to part ways” following three seasons of coaching in College Station.

He couldn’t build on that performance in 2014 and was inconsistent and later injured.

Knight had some good early outings in 2014, throwing for more than 300 yards three times but regressed as the season wore on and then suffered a neck injury. He threw interceptions that directly resulted in opponent touchdowns in all four of the Sooners’ losses that he started that season.

Knight’s only significant action in 2015 came in the second half of the Sooners’ Nov. 21 win over TCU, when he came in after Mayfield suffered a concussion.

After that game, Knight was demoted to third string on the OU depth chart. The Aggies have been considered the front-runners for Knight since 247sports reported as much just after Christmas.
