If that was Carlos Condit’s final fight, he left a lasting impression

The UFC 195 main card and main event Robbie Lawler vs Carlos Condit fight begins sometime after 11:30 pm EST / 8:30 pm PST depending on how long the other four main card fights take, so plan your TV viewing accordingly. As it turned out, the victor of the round was going to be the champion.

Especially when you have a style of fighting such as Condit’s, which is full speed ahead and never letting your foot of the gas pedal. The 13-year veteran pro held the interim UFC title in 2012 before losing the belt to Georges St. Pierre, who described the New Mexico wrestler as his toughest opponent. Great fights shouldn’t be marred by suspect decisions, fighters shouldn’t be afraid to go the distance and 10-9 shouldn’t be the score assigned to the vast majority of rounds, especially considering how distinctly different rounds often receive the same score.

“I got caught in the second and in the flurry in the fifth”. On the night, at the time, most people had Carlos Condit beating Robbie Lawler, 3-2.

The scorecards were read, and two judges gave the fight to Robbie Lawler, making him the first American in a decade to successfully defend the Welterweight title two consecutive times.

A decision that didn’t sit too well with many – including yours truly – as Carlos proved to have a good gameplan that seemed effective enough to warrant a win.

After the fight, Condit said “I felt like I had three rounds in the bag, but that’s why you don’t leave it to the judges”. In the end, the split-decision nod went to the champion, Lawler, who kept the welterweight belt around his waist.

The volume continued for Condit in the fourth. Judges Chris Lee and Derek Cleary each had it 48-47, or three rounds to two, for Lawler. It is expected to be competitive as the two fighters have a finish rate of 87.5 percent between the two of them, according to ESPN. “Let’s see how they feel in a couple days”.

Sims will be looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat, which came to Olivier Aubin-Mercier at UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira.

Lawler doesn’t anticipate any injuries halting his return to the octagon as he said he was banged up but suffered nothing serious in the victory.

The co-main event of the evening also featured a former champion as heavyweight Andrei Arlovski took on hard-charging Stipe Miocic.

“Who the hell was going to say no to him?” When he gets hurt, he continues to go toe-to-toe and Robbie reminds me that he’s our Evander Holyfield. “I’m fired up man. I’m ready to roll”, Miocic, 33, said. “I fight and usually it turns out well for me”.
