The first preseason game of 2016 ended with a win. But Pat Shurmur will serve as the Eagles’ interim head coach against the Giants after Philadelphia fired Kelly on Tuesday.

In the last game of the season the Eagles didn’t look like a 7-9 team. “Offensive line did a great job blocking, and I felt I was able to get used to it. I’ve always talked to 1/8Shurmur3/8, and we’ve had a good relationship about certain run plays”. He also played parts of three seasons with the Steelers from 2004 to 2006.
Sunday’s game was actually pretty entertaining.
“I think he’s finally gotten comfortable and whenever he’s on, he’s on”, Johnson said.

He will not play Sunday in the regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Giants knew what they would get from Kelly – a fast-paced offense that gets a lot of possessions, most of which are relatively short. This week, Murray basically admitted he didn’t fit in Kelly’s scheme. One of those dud performances was the first meeting against Philadelphia, where Manning threw for just 189 yards on 38 attempts, with two interceptions. The Eagles had 261 and the Giants had 259.
With the Eagles falling out of the playoffs around Christmas and the holiday party issue, the timing of Kelly’s firing appears to show that Lurie did not agree with how the coach operated on and off the field. For one, Murray’s touchdown from under center stood out.

You would think it would be a given that the Eagles would try to re-sign him, particularly after trading away a second-round pick for him just last March.

In an interesting move, Pat Shurmur made a decision to see what he had in Marcus Smith and Smith rewarded him by recording his first full sack of his career. He had lulls early and late in the season combined with big games. “And it’s hard for them to get traction”.
