UFC 195 Results: Lawler retains title with contentious split over Condit in

Despite the judges decision, UFC president Dana White was just one of the many to call the fight in Condit’s favor, and even Lawler had nothing but praise for the man who tried to take his belt following an unforgettable win. But then the fifth witnessed Lawler come alive and fight for his belt, hoping to finish Condit but content to see his hand raised in a razor-thin, split-decision victory on three scores of 48-47.

Lawler said he’s “not going to make a decision today” about when he can fight next after staging the 2015 fight of the year against Rory MacDonald, when in July Lawler rallied while down on the scorecards to knock out MacDonald in the fifth round. Lawler said yes he would like to do it. I’m sure Condit would like to do it again if he doesn’t decide to retire.

The first MMA event of 2016 is upon us and it comes in the form of the Ultimate Fighting Championships and most notably, UFC 195.

At the weigh in, Lawler and Condit exchanged a statedown and neither of them seemed to back down.

The third judge, Tony Weeks, gave Lawler rounds two and five and had it 48-47 for Condit. There were two winners tonight, and still.

The volume continued for Condit in the fourth. Although neither fighter knew it at the time, because no one in this sport has any confidence in predicting how cageside judges are scoring a fight, the bout was there for the taking.

Regardless of whether Condit should or shouldn’t have won the fight, Lawler proved why he’s a UFC champion when he went through a hellacious five-round battle and provided the world with another historic title fight. Leading up to UFC 195, fans were expecting exactly what we received: a back and forth instant classic. We’ve got the Pay-per-view (PPV) prelims and main fight start times, how to watch UFC 195 live streaming online, and how to order UFC 195 Lawlers vs Condit on TV plus more in this preview.

The two black eyes capping the trail of bruises and swells down Carlos Condit’s face failed to hide his emotions. While Condit said he would consider retirement, Lawler had a better idea.

“Carlos is a kickboxer, and he’s got a little bit of a different style than most, but he’s high up there and I have to definitely be focused”, Lawler said.

“Neurologically, no [I wasn’t hurt], but I’m lumped up”, Condit said.

Robbie Lawler was going to have a tough time putting together a fight as epic as his first title defense at UFC 189, but that’s exactly what he did Saturday night. He had lost three of four fights, and prior to that had been on a lose-one-win-one run, or limp, for a year and a half.
