“Just like in all of New England, Springfield does have a heroin problem”, said Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney, according to CNN.
This strain of heroin is blamed for eight overdose deaths in MA.
Vermont State Police are not aware of any other cases involving this strain of heroin.
In a brief summary of the investigation, the prosecutor said Perez was arrested late Saturday after city police received a tip that a gold minivan carrying a large amount of heroin would be pulling into the parking lot of a CVS store on Belmont Avenue.
The drug led to eight overdose deaths, all which happened in Hampden County. Local police also seized 9,000 bags of the drug over the weekend and arrested four people in connection to the bust.
We asked Gulluni what they would need to charge these men.
In total, 9,000 bags were recovered, along with $20,000 in cash. You don’t know what’s in it, or how much there is. About 1,089 people died of opioid-related overdoses in 2014, according to the Massachusetts Department of Health.
