The Giants finished at 6-10, and Reese said the team is not too far away from contending for another title despite posting losing records the past three seasons.

The 69-year-old Coughlin said in a statement that he was stepping down “in the best interest of the organization”.

After a memorable 12-season stint as New York Giants head coach was brought to an end this week, Tom Coughlin has hinted his career on the sideline might not be over yet.

A two-time Super Bowl victor with the Giants, Coughlin held an emotional farewell media conference on Tuesday, when he was asked directly if his hunger for coaching had waned.

Coughlin’s resignation was unsurprising, as the Giants have now endured three consecutive losing seasons in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL. They’ve missed the playoffs in six of the past seven seasons but won the Super Bowl after the 2011 season – the second championship under Coughlin and Reese. He’s an incredible coach, just how over the years how he’s adjusted and changed. Coughlin went 68-60 during the regular season in Jacksonville for a career mark of 170-150 and 12-7 in the playoffs. One would think Coughlin would take a job it would be in a situation where he could win right now. Coughlin defended Manning and looked him dead in the eye to have a Good Will Hunting moment. “I know we will dedicate time to the Jay Fund foundation”, Coughlin said. It’s not easy to turn a roster over and rebuild, but I do believe we’re competitive and lost eight games by a total of 26 points. “I learned so much from him from at an early age when I got here until right now”. And the last time he was in charge of a defense before this past season was when the 2012 Saints were the worst defense in National Football League history.

That, though, paled in comparison to Tuesday when it appeared as if the two-time Super Bowl MVP had to do everything in his power to keep it together. “It’s a bottom-line profession”, Coughlin said.

McAdoo is the most intriguing candidate, especially since Eli Manning has been stumping for him and his system to return in 2016. “You’ve gotta manufacture wins in different ways”.

Coughlin said relationships became the primary objective in his career.

“We all know when we get in the business that we need to get off of the train sometime”, Parcells said while appearing on ESPN.
