Obama gun order to have muted local effect
Obama outlined new initiatives as part of an Executive Order on gun control Tuesday. “So, I’m going to keep beating the drum, and I’m delighted that the president announced the actions he did today”.

“While we don’t yet know the details of the plan, the President is at minimum subverting the legislative branch, and potentially overturning its will”, House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement Monday.
And more people in South Florida have concealed weapons permits than any other place in the state, meaning more are carrying guns.
The centrepiece of Obama’s plan is an attempt to narrow the loophole that exempts gun buyers from background checks if the seller isn’t a federal registered dealer.
While President Barack Obama downplayed his executive actions on gun control Tuesday – likening them to traffic laws, fingerprint-unlocking technology on iPads and child-proof lids for aspirin – Ted Cruz’s campaign had a different reaction. He said, “There could be stricter regulations and everyone should get background checks”.
“Every time I think about those kids [at Sandy Hook], it gets me mad.”
“President Obama has no business trampling on our Second Amendment rights”, said U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher, a Crockett County Republican.
“The gun lobby may be holding Congress hostage right now, but they can not hold America hostage”, Mr. Obama added.
We reached out to several local gun businesses to see what effect the executive order will have on them. There is now no licensing requirement for private sellers online or at gun shows, and only licensed dealers are required to conduct background checks on individuals.
“I think that’s consonant with the Second Amendment”.
“In Dr King’s words, we need to feel the fierce urgency of now, because people are dying”, President Obama told the audience.

ND Senator John Hoeven said this is a case of the President doing as he pleases, calling the real issue here not gun rights, but mental health and terrorism. As the President made his announcement at the White House, several people from Colorado who lost loved ones to mass shootings stood with him.
