Police entered the Decatur motel room after hours surrounding the building and found that Thomas had stabbed himself, causing a critical injury. No one else was injured.
Thomas faces false imprisonment and obstruction charges.
Their relationship to the man, whom police did not identify, was not immediately clear.
The stand off is underway after a domestic dispute call that came in around the two o’clock hour.
Authorities had surrounded the motel as the man refused to leave a room, prompting concerns about the safety of several children inside. They negotiated with him without success and eventually SWAT stormed the room.
