The fifth terrorist, according to the security forces, was killed on Monday. The attack continues at the time of writing, with six security forces personnel and five militants reportedly killed so far.
Officials said they had received intelligence about a possible attack and had beefed up security at the air field and repulsed the attackers before they reached any sensitive areas.
After operations lasting three days, security forces today killed two more Pakistani terrorists within the Pathankot air base with the government saying six of them have now been neutralised, but it was not clear whether all the intruders have been eliminated.
Search and combing operation by security forces continued on Monday night also.
The council is based in Pakistan’s portion of Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between the countries but claimed in its entirety by both. He gave no details on those intercepts in an interview Tuesday with the television news channel TimesNow.
While United Jihad Council, a group based in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, said that it had orchestrated the attack, a report by CNN affiliate CNN-IBN cites government sources that deny the group’s involvement.
“Our government is constantly working to solve it. Congress should introspect”.
India accuses Pakistan of arming and training insurgents in its portion of Kashmir.
“The major countries across the world should know that we are a victim of terrorism and that we have done our best to engage with Pakistan so that we get their support in our future actions”, a source said.
The attack on the Pathankot airbase started before dawn on Saturday and a gunbattle between the militants and Indian forces is continuing into the third day, with the facility still not declared secure. Gen. Dushyant Singh, from India’s National Security Guard, told reporters. The attack has dragged on since early Saturday morning as troops struggle to find the heavily armed attackers in the sprawling base.

The base has a fleet of India’s Russian-origin MiG-21 fighter jets and Mi-25 and Mi-35 attack helicopters, along with other military hardware. Officials said the firing was linked to the mopping operation.
