Saudi Arabia-Iran crisis widens as Kuwait recalls envoy
President Hassan Rouhani’s comments came as Kuwait announced it had recalled its ambassador to Iran over attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in the Islamic Republic.

Iran has accused the Sunni Muslim monarchy of Saudi Arabia of using the attack on the embassy as an “excuse” to sever ties and further increase sectarian tensions.
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Sudan have taken steps to downgrade their diplomatic relations with Iran.
“As Turkey, we are ready to make any effort to solve the problems between the two countries”, he said, without specifying what this could entail.
Officials have not said how Nimr was put to death, but beheading is common in the conservative Sunni Muslim kingdom, which has since cut diplomatic ties with predominantly Shiite Iran.
Nimr was a force behind 2011 anti-government protests in eastern Saudi Arabia, where Shiites have long complained of marginalisation.
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia cut off its diplomatic relations with Iran over the attacks and for what it said an Iranian intervention in its affairs.
While the general impression is that the executions were a Sunni revenge for similar executions in Iran – which is a top-ranking country when it comes to awarding capital punishment – some commentators pointed out that only four of those executed by Saudi Arabia were Shias.
In response to a Saudi letter, the U.N. Security Council late Monday strongly condemned the attacks by Iranian protesters on Saudi diplomatic posts.
The countries back opposing sides in Syria and Yemen, where it was reported that Saudi airstrikes had intensified on Tuesday.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against Saudi Arabia, likening the Riyadh regime to the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.
Aziz said the National Assembly would be given an in-camera briefing on the Saudi-Iran tensions.
“We have never sought to create tension”.
Saudi Arabia also cancelled all flights to and from Iran on Monday.
Tarawneh also called on Iran to stop its “colonialist and interference policies against the brotherly Gulf countries, urging Tehran to adopt good neighbourly policies towards the Arab world”.

But the ambassador also said that the two nations are “not naturally born enemies”, and that what separated them was Iranian interference, in reference to Iran’s support for organizations in other countries, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and the administration of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
