Why Trump is going ‘birther’ on Ted Cruz
Cruz was concluding the second day of a six-day swing through Iowa before the February 1 caucuses, while Trump was holding a rally in New Hampshire. His mother, Eleanor, is from DE, while his father, Rafael, is a Cuban who became a US citizen in 2005. “It’d be a very precarious one for Republicans because he’d be running and the courts may take a long time to make decision”.

Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta, in 1970 while his parents were working in the oil business there.
Trump says Cruz’s birthplace may be “big problem”: Bloomberg Politics.
Cruz responded on Twitter, posting video from the sitcom “Happy Days”, in which the character Fonzie jumps over a shark on water skis. In 2008, senators passed a resolution, making it clear, for example, that John McCain was allowed to run given that he was born on a USA military base in the Panama Canal Zone.
Trump was one of the loudest voices questioning whether President Obama was born in Kenya and thus not eligible to be USA president.
“How do you run against the Democrat, whoever it may be, and you have this hanging over your head if they bring a lawsuit?” Neal Katyal, who was acting solicitor general in the Obama administration, and Paul Clement, who was the solicitor general under George W. Bush, wrote in the Harvard Law Review that “there is no question” Cruz is eligible and that “Cruz has been a citizen from birth and is thus a “natural born Citizen” within the meaning of the Constitution” and the “Naturalization Act of 1790”.
Trump was on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday morning and weighed in on how Obama got emotional and shed tears on Tuesday while rolling out his executive actions on guns. However, when asked whether Trump should view him as a threat, Cruz not only refused to engage, but called on Trump to stay silent as well. In a mid-December Iowa poll, Cruz lagged Trump by only one percent.
Trump weeks earlier himself referred to Clinton’s bathroom break during the last Democratic presidential debate, calling her use of the restroom “too disgusting” to discuss. “I think my record is stronger than any other Republican candidate in the field”.
“Shouldn’t he give me some credit?” he asked, returning to the issue.

“I don’t know where someone who uses a World War II term, with dumb bombs hitting population centers and industrial centers – to use that type of term and say we can win this by the air and by using carpet bombs – this is completely detached from the last 25 years of warfare in the world”.
