The ad depicts men and women in suits yielding briefcases running across the U.S./Mexico border, as a Cruz voice-over describes how the immigration debate would be different if those crossing the border were taking the jobs of American bankers, journalists and lawyers.

“This was not my suggestion”.

“I actually think he was honest”, Trump said on Fox.

“I want to beat him on his own merit”. “Yes, I’m sure. The media, with all due respect, love to engage in silly sideshows”. McCain said we may need the Supreme Court to address the matter, but because the issue is mostly settled the court has refused to take up legal challenges on the meaning of “natural born citizen” – most recently, as PolitiFact notes, when such cases were filed against McCain in 2008. He has promised to enforce laws on the books and shifted on the issue of legal immigration, saying he no longer supports the massive increases that he once did.

It was possible for Cruz to claim US citizenship through his mother, if his parents filed a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America (CRBA) with the nearest USA embassy or consulate after the birth to document that the child is a US citizen.

The flare up comes as Cruz is rising in the polls and is poised to finish first in Iowa, which holds the first-in-the-nation caucuses on February 1.

Cruz has led Trump in the most recent batch of polling in Iowa. “But a lot of people are talking about it and I know that even some states are looking at it very strongly, the fact that he was born in Canada and he has had a double passport”. “I don’t want to have a thing like this happen”, Trump told “Fox & Friends”, adding, “I will say, though, that the Democrats, if they bring a lawsuit on it, I mean, you have to get it solved”.
