Netflix Inc. announced Wednesday that it had tripled its reach globally by expanding into an additional 130 countries as the video-streaming service took its most aggressive step yet in its plans for global growth.
“From today onwards, we will listen and we will learn, gradually adding more languages, more content and more ways for people to engage with Netflix”, said Hastings.
Netflix on Wednesday added simplified and traditional Chinese to the 17 languages it already supports.
Hastings said that Netflix was now in about 70 million homes and that he expected the number of customers outside the United States to surpass the number domestically in 2017. The company’s share price surged 135 percent in 2015, making it the top performing stock on the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index. But the real success of Netflix has been its original content. While the service does provide access to shows that air on network television – leading to many users abandoning their cable connections altogether – it has now ventured into producing its own shows. Hastings said that was not likely to change soon: “We will see the success of the service in Israel and decide if we should localize it”.
In an interview, Hastings said the company will try to a partner in China while it tries to appease the country’s Communist government, a process that he hopes to complete by the end of this year.
With the assistance of the Internet, Netflix is placing power users’ hand to watch content at whatever point, wherever and on whatever gadget, he included.
Netflix has formally announced an enormous global enlargement of its service, together with two new shows coming this yr together with a period drama about Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.
Several of Netflix’s upcoming shows were introduced on the CES keynote stage, including “The Crown” and “The Get Down”. “Now we can be fully focused on finding the best content for the world”.
