Big Bang Theory, the most-watched comedy on U.S. television and a perennial Emmy favorite, missed out on a best series nomination this year, while four-time Emmy victor Jim Parsons, who plays a geeky scientist on the CBS show, slipped off the list for consideration.

HBO’s unstoppable fantasy series Game of Thrones earned nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Supporting Actor (Peter Dinklage) and Supporting Actress (Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke), among many others.

Game of Thrones ruled the ceremony with 24 nominations, including one for outstanding drama series, while American Horror: Freak Show had 19 and Olive Kitteridge 13.

Among the most glaring omissions was the legal drama “The Good Wife” and its star Julianna Margulies, who captured the lead actress award a year ago. Drama “Breaking Bad” and long-time comedy hit “Modern Family” were named the best shows.

Numerous out actors and shows featuring lgbt characters up for Emmy Awards.

Another new streaming series is also in contention for the best comedy Emmy: Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt“.
