J.J. Abrams’ newest addition to the saga has now made $758.2 million within the USA, passing James Cameron’s “Avatar” for the highest grossing domestic film of all-time. “The Force Awakens’ ” global tally stands at about $1.56 billion, making it the fourth-highest grossing movie ever worldwide so far.
But here’s the thing, movie tickets cost more today than they did in 2009 when “Avatar” debuted.
It took The Force Awakens about 20 days to zoom past Avatar.
It is the last market to feel the power of “the force”, but the wait is nearly over – “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released in theaters in China on 9 January.
“The Force Awakens” has broken record on top of record since opening in mid-December. Besides, considering just how many records Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broke through, we wouldn’t write off Disney pushing its billion-dollar baby past the fabled milestone by sheer willpower alone.
It had an equally impressive second weekend, earning $153.5 million, another record.
The Force Awakens has also toppled Spectre as the UK’s biggest film of 2015 as well as overtaking Avatar in the list of highest grossing United Kingdom movies of all time.
According to Disney, J.J.
Creator George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney in 2012 for $4.05bn.
