Anndrea Caruth, who had a rope wrapped around her throat and torso when she was found Wednesday, struggled to survive in the last minutes of her life, police sources said.

There, around 2 a.m., detectives found a roughly 4-foot-wide hole cut into the thick concrete floor, concealed by a piece of plywood and a rug. The medical examiner will determine a cause of death.

The woman’s longtime boyfriend, who reported her missing, gave police permission to search the house, but nothing was found. Only when canines were brought in Tuesday did they detect possible remains. She was five months pregnant.

Her father, William Caruth, 61, was arrested later in the day and charged with murder and manslaughter.

She had injuries to her forehead, according to a police source.

Police told the New York Post that the two were having a dispute over money.

Family members couldn’t be reached for comment.

She appears to have died due to blunt force trauma to the head.

The killing of Andrea Caruth, 39, cast a shadow over a block that usually teemed with children streaming into the daycare centre she ran.

“She really fought for her life”, said Valentina Caiazzo, the previous owner of the brick home where the Caruths lived on Corsa Ave.in Baychester. An unidentified friend told NBC4 that Andrea Caruth was “a strong-headed girl”, and that though she was grown up, her father was “very controlling man, a very stern, firm man”. And to know that she was just killed over – what?
