RZA Discusses Martin Shkreli’s Wu-Tang Album Purchase

RZA, whose real name is Robert Digg, said the buyer can do as he likes with the never-before-heard record – “He bought it. He can do what he wants.” – but suggested Shkreli let the public take a listen.

There might be one person who doesn’t hate Martin Shkreli. RZA said, adding that the former CEO could stream the album or loan it to a museum. Then, in August, Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli infamously jacked up the price of a life-saving generic drug to turn a huge profit (before ultimately getting arrested for securities fraud). “We had a brief lunch”, RZA said.

He plans to donate a “significant” amount of the proceeds to charity, but wasn’t aware of Shkreli’s past before the album was sold.

RZA did reveal his hopes that Skreli would be generous with the record: “He has the power to do something really cool”.

The album itself will now of course be ingrained in even more folklore, which serves as an obvious blessing in disguise for RZA and the rest of Wu-Tang, with even more interest generated about the unique way in which the album was marketed and distributed.

“If you want me to make a beat, come to the RZA, I can handle that”, he said.

RZA laughed off Shkreli’s diss. Provided that the album doesn’t get seized by the feds, Shkreli, could do something “philanthropic” with the album so that other people can hear it, said RZA. In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Shkreli said: “If I hand you $2 million, fucking show me some respect”.

Fans have roundly denounced Shkreli as the sole owner of the album and have raised questions on how Shkreli was allowed to purchase the album.
