Below, watch a preview of tonight’s episode of AMERICAN IDOL. The two-night premiere continues when IDOL takes on San Francisco and Little Rock, tonight at 8/7c on FOX. And while both of those stats do mark lows for a season opener, they’re both pretty much in line with last January’s return.
And the ratings are the worst ever … and the best of the night. Reality still trails scripted significantly with the DVR and streaming set.
Fox’s iconic competition series returned for the last time Wednesday night and delivered 10.9 million viewers and a 2.9 rating among adults 18-49 during. Modern Family pulled in slightly over 8 million viewers at 9 p.m. and the PCAs notched just shy of 6 million. It drew 10.9 million for its final season premiere Wednesday. American Crime’s season debut rated a 1.2, 20% up from its spring finale. The People’s Choice Awards averaged almost 6 million for CBS.

At NBC, “The Mysteries of Laura” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall), matched its most recent telecast in mid-November, placing a distant fourth in 18-49 for its hour. Then came NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” with 7.8 million and ABC’s “The Middle” with 7.8 million. ABC, with American Crime returning, put up a 1.9/6.
