MediaTek has kick started their new year at the CES 2016 by announcing the MediaTek MT8581, an integrated multimedia SoC built specifically for Ultra High Definition (4K) Blu-ray players.

The company itself boasts that the new MT2523 chip is going to allow wearables to last for as much as a whole week on a single charge.

The chipset is touted to be 41% percent smaller than the competitors out there, and is relatively easier on the battery as well, which means the space not utilized by the chip can be used for even more battery.

The MT2523 combines long battery life, high-quality display technology, and small chip size to provide for optimum user experience. It includes 2D capabilities of true color, per pixel alpha channel and anti-aliasing fonts, plus 1-bit index color to save memory and computing power.MT2523’s low power comes from its ARM® Cortex®-M4 processor, which combines high-efficiency signal processing functionality with low power, low cost and ease-of-use benefits. The MediaTek MT8581 is world’s first Ultra-HD 4K Blu-ray player SoC with high dynamic range (HDR), the company said in a statement. The MCU enables wearable devices with lower power consumption and smaller form factors than Android Wear. The chipset is also said to support MIPI high-resolution mobile screen. It embeds a power amplifier with TX Power up to 10 dBm and will be available in the first half of 2016.

Also on show was the MT7697, an IoT bridge that will connect wearables and smart gadgets and appliances to tablets, smartphones and the cloud.
