Powerball lottery reaches record $800m jackpot as sales soar
The estimated prize for this weekend’s Powerball drawing is the largest jackpot of any lottery game in US history. The winning numbers Wednesday were 2, 11, 47, 62, 63 with Powerball 17 and Power Play 3.

While you’ll still have the same one in 292 million chance to win, no matter what numbers you choose, looking at the raw data from every winning Powerball number uncovers some interesting trends. But there have been winless streaks of two months or more before, and the previous record Powerball record jackpot was $656 million.
In the past 13 years, 16 Powerball jackpot winners have bought their tickets in Pennsylvania, more than any other state.
Many retailers were swamped with would-be winners seeking their lucky numbers Wednesday – a scene that is likely to repeat in the days leading up to Saturday’s drawing.
The last Powerball jackpot victor was in November, when a ticket holder from Tennessee claimed $144.1 million. Hoosiers are lining up at stores across the state hoping to get their hands on the winning ticket. A Florida woman won the largest Powerball jackpot of $590.5 million on May 18, 2013.
Some players feel they improve their chance of winning by pooling their money with co-workers, with a promise to split the winnings.
Of course, you can still win big without hitting the jackpot. And it could become the first lottery jackpot to hit a billion.
A Powerball ticket worth $1 million was sold at a Union City liquor store.
A Hoosier win would be the 39th jackpot victor for the state in Hoosier Lottery’s history. Seven tickets sold in North Carolina won $50,000 in the drawing.
“You buy more than two, you’re just stupid”, he said.
