Quinn was one of four candidates linked to the Lions opening, along with White, Seattle co-director of player personnel Trent Kirchner and Giants assistant general manager Kevin Abrams.

Quinn, the New England Patriots director of pro scouting, interviewed with the Lions today, and ESPN reported the team is finalizing a deal with him to become GM.

Quinn has been with the Patriots since 2000, and New England has two assistants who are considered among the top coaching candidates on the market in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. Lions fans have been clamoring for a new general manager who can give the franchise more consistent, talent-soaked draft classes.

“Bob’s done a good job with us”, Belichick said.

There aren’t many men who have shared a draft war room with Bill Belichick, even in National Football League circles. His background is drawn primarily from scouting, and he worked his way up through the ranks to his current position with the Patriots. When injuries happen throughout the season, they also play a crucial role in determining which veteran players could conceivably come in and help the team. Seven NFL head coaching jobs are now open, and several teams have already gotten a jump on the market for replacements.

The Lions went 7-9 last season and were without a general manager since firing Martin Mayhew after a 1-7 start to the year. Team president Rod Wood has stated all along that decision will be up to the new GM.
