Golden Globes to Offer a Galaxy of Stars, If Not the Force

“For any of you who don’t know, the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars, but without all that esteem”.

As for the men, well – sorry, fellas; nobody cares what you’re wearing. In the 72 years since the Globes started, winning actresses have gone on to scoop Oscars in the same year 50 times.

NBC stations’ websites will feature the latest red carpet photos and up-to-date information about this year’s awards show, including the list of nominees and winners, as well as a “Guess Who Wore It” interactive game highlighting what the stars wore to the award show and in previous years. Toy Story, Despicable Me, Tron…it seemed like everything this year was three-dimensional.

“Room” is one of the most talked-about movies this year, and it’s easy to see why.

What: The 73 annual Golden Globes, celebrating the best of TV and film from 2015. As far as ties go, it’s a black tie event so men should wear a tie.

Like the Golden Globes themselves, which are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Gervais is big in Tinseltown without really being part of it. And the acerbic British comedian, probably best known for co-creating and starring in the original United Kingdom version of The Office, isn’t afraid of ruffling a few feathers. Though “Mad Max: Fury Road” could be the surprise victor in multiple categories and prove that the Globes are the most unpredictable awards show on TV. For Comedy, Matt Damon (The Martian) has the edge over Christian Bale (Big Short).

The Globes will be examined for what they say about the Oscar nominations, out Thursday.

Also, unlike the Oscars, the Globes break up the awards for films in the drama and musical/comedy categories.

Last year, Globe voters startled nearly everyone when they awarded best drama series to Showtime’s he-said, she-said mystery, “The Affair”. Prior recipients include George Clooney (2015), Jodie Foster (2013), Morgan Freeman, (2012), Robert De Niro (2011) and Al Pacino (2001).

Unlike the Oscars, which can feel stuffy and self-important, the Globes are a rowdier, more bleeptastic affair. Hosts, presenters, nominees, and winners alike let their hair down and speak more freely at the Globes. “Once we talked with Ricky, we were very excited”. She is up against her “Carol” costar Cate Blanchett, who plays her married lover.

WHO IS GETTING THE CECIL B. DeMILLE AWARD? We’re not saying everyone’s business should be dragged through the streets (after all celebs are people to), but we won’t pretend it isn’t a bit nice to see Hollywood royalty humbled.
