Digital video to surpass TV by 2020, says YouTube’s Kyncl
Robery Kyncl, chief business officer at YouTube, announced support for the standard at a keynote speech about virtual reality (which is another field YouTube has taken an early interest in). People now find time to watch five hours of video content daily, but growth in traditional television viewership has dropped off, versus online video consumption which is growing by 60 percent annually.

In late 2015, YouTube launched Red, a new ad-free subscription service, and the Google-owned service will bring in original programming from young YouTube stars in February. Braun explained how YouTube and his discovery of Bieber has affected his life and offered words of encouragement for people creating videos on the platform.
GoPro now has a two different cameras and rigs capable of helping film content in 3D and 360 degrees, but the equipment is expensive and aimed at professional videographers as opposed to the general public.
Kyncl emphasized the marriage of music and YouTube makes good business sense.
While he pointed to mobile viewing and virtual reality as drivers of the shift to digital, he also said his prediction is based on lower TV audiences.
Music is another attraction, he says, noting that more than half of teenagers use YouTube as their main source to discover bands and performers. Unfortunately we’re not yet sure how long it will take YouTube to deliver the goods for content creators, but knowing them they’ll want to have it out well before it becomes old news.
Ending the whole presentation, Kyncl said farewell with one last announcement – YouTube will support HDR video.
The inherent mobility of digital video is overwhelming.

Mr. Kyncl and GoPro CEO, Nick Woodman, also announced that the companies have struck a deal to provide users with more 360-degree content. The action camera manufacturer intends to bring out more economical, and easily available, spherical-shaped multi-angle cameras to shoot and create 3D immersive content.
