Video shows shark strapped to a car

‘I was driving down Safety Bay Road beside a boat and as I got closer to the vehicle I had to double take as I was sure I was looking at a shark tail on the left, ‘ Ms Wright told PerthNow.

The footage which has been watched nearly 400,000 times on Facebook has had a mixed response from commentators. Wright then switched lanes so that her 10-year-old son could videotape the unusual arrangement.

The Department of Fisheries has identified the animal as a tiger shark and is trying to locate those involved to question them.

Comments on Facebook say the shark is protected and over the size limit, and criticised the transport method.

“The “inter-dorsal fin” measurement must be no more than 700mm measured from the front of the dorsal fin on the top of the shark to the back of the smaller rear dorsal fin.”

To be legal sized for recreational fishing, tiger sharks must not have an interdorsal fin length of 700 millimetres or greater. That incident came just days after more than 60 sharks were observed near the New South Wales coastline.

The man, who is reportedly elderly, said he was unable to lift the shark onto his boat and instead attached it to the bulbar at the front of his auto to remove it from the area.

Christine Bellairs Woods predicted it “Looks like two fines for them, one for the shark and one for covering their number plate”.
