Clinton aims to drive wedge on guns between Obama, Sanders
Sen. Bernie Sanders is crushing Democratic presidential nomination rival Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, where he dominates by 13 points, a new Fox News poll shows.

With gun control taking on a prominent role in the Democratic primary, Clinton on Friday rebuked Sanders’ record on the issue while casting him as an occasional ally of the National Rifle Association.
Clinton will host an organizing event at Benton Auditorium of Iowa State’s Scheman Building at 10 a.m., where she will discuss her plans to create an economy where everyone can stay ahead and tackle the issues she says keeps families up at night.
Democrats have “a real choice because standing up to the gun lobby is a real difference between Senator Sanders and Hillary Clinton”, Podesta said, suggesting that only Clinton’s record shows a determination to do so. “I will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate, even in my own party, who does not support common-sense gun reform”, he wrote. The president then commented on gun manufacturer liability, an issue on which Sanders had notably voted with Republicans. Clinton has spent months going after Sanders record on gun control. “Sanders voted with the gun lobby, and I voted against the gun lobby”.
“I hear what you’re saying”, said Sanders. This week, Sanders backed Obama’s executive actions on guns, including one to expand background checks to more gun sales. Thats exactly the goal here, right? Earnest told reporters at the White House. “And it has been the principal instrument for us keeping more than 2 million guns out of the hands of fugitives, felons, stalkers, the people who should not have them in the first place”, she said. Sanders would pay for it with a $1.61 payroll tax – the Democrats’ Family Act would also be funded through payroll tax contributions.
Sanders on Friday held a news conference in Cedar Rapids to distinguish himself from Clinton on paid family medical leave.
Meanwhile, the Sanders campaign accuses Clinton as flip-flopping on the issue which she calls false. “Secretary Clinton and her team are getting nervous and nasty because the so-called inevitable nominee anointed by the establishment eight months ago doesn’t look so inevitable anymore”.
Sanders has defended his record on guns by noting that Vermont is a rural state with nearly no control He has said he could have a moderating impact on the gun debate bridging urban and rural America.

After the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut, Sanders backed all the Democratic gun bills brought up in Congress. But in 1993, he voted against the landmark Brady handgun bill, which imposed a five-day waiting period for gun purchases.
