FA Cup: Manchester United 1-0 Sheffield United – 5 Talking Points

Several Manchester United players are in the “red zone” according to manager Louis van Gaal as he weighs up his options for Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie at home to Sheffield United.

As Sheffield United travel to Old Trafford this weekend, they will no doubt go with expectations that they can pull off an FA Cup shock.

Scholes has been an increasingly vocal critic of the van Gaal regime in recent weeks, and didn’t hold back after the match when speaking to BT Sport, as per the Mirror.

Van Gaal believes the spirt in the camp has been lifted following the win, yet says he has now tried to work on the player’s mental approach in search of improvement on the pitch.

“In Spain we play two legs in the cup, so it’s good that it can be down to just one game here – it makes it very emotional”. So they win, they were supposed to, they dont and well there will be speculation about Van Gaal.

Adkins, who has also managed Reading and Scunthorpe, knows the Blades face a massive test against a United team seeking to win the competition for a record-equalling 12th time.

It is hard to disagree with Scholes; while United got the result, their performance was abysmal and it was painful to watch at times.

Fans and pundits alike have rounded on him after this latest performance, but Louis van Gaal was defiant in his post-match interview.

“They (Sheffield) were well organised but it’s more easy to defend than attack”, added Van Gaal.

“The players looked bored themselves”, Scholes said.

“I said in advance to the boys: ‘The only thing that counts is we are in the [fourth] round, ‘ and we did it”, he said. You have to see it as a player and the pass has to be at the right speed.

Hainer, who signed off a £750million sponsorship deal with United past year, said United’s style is “not exactly what we want to see”.

“When he doesn’t play there too much, he can be better training with us and maybe he can show talent in the first team”.

“We bought Marouane Fellaini because he is a real handful in the box – he is playing in a central midfield position trying to dictate play and create”. For me it’s interesting how I take care of Manchester United and after this season, I still have one year to go. However, they’ll be without Adnan Januzaj, reports Sky Sports.
