There is a possibility of the combination of snow with freezing rain.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.
We have a Winter Storm Warning in effect for the northern half of our area from 3am to 3pm Monday.
In snow-loving Vermont, Chassidy Byrd, the assistant manager at a gas station and convenience store in Plainfield, said the storm returned the state to a sense of normal.
The National Weather Service says Wednesday will be cloudy with some precipitation.
The biggest hazards for this event are hazardous road conditions and power outages.
Drivers in New England certainly didn’t miss this: Snow, sleet and freezing rain that are covering the region for the first time this season are sending cars and trucks spinning off roadways.
“We have a lot of volunteers for the event and we didn’t want to get them trapped here in a bad storm”, said director of marketing Jon Pic.
Up to 3 inches of snow are expected in Greater Boston and there could also be sleet and freezing rain from a storm arriving Monday night.
“The heaviest snow still looks to fall across the northern third, north-central portion of the state into northeastern portions of Iowa where around eight to 12 inches of snow may fall”, Beerends says. Wind: from the northeast at 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts near 45 miles per hour.
On Tuesday, rain will continue until about 1 p.m. with a high temperature of 47, according to the website.
The first significant snowstorm of the 2015 winter is expected to create a “very tricky morning commute” on Tuesday, Buttrick said.
New Year’s Eve: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.
