New Delhi has provided Islamabad with what it says “actionable information” about the potential plotters of Pathankot terror attack and Pakistan said it immediately launched investigations in the light of “Indian leads”.

It said Sharif had given assurances that his government would take “prompt and decisive action”.

Indian troops killed six militants after a four-day battle at the Pathankot air base in Punjab.

The information and leads, like the Pakistani numbers which the attackers had called and their intercepts, are understood to have been passed on by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

India has said that the ball is now in Pakistan’s court and if Sharif delivers, then the spirit that was generated after Modi’s visit to Lahore on December 25, can return.

An alliance of Kashmiri militant groups claimed the deadly attack in a statement released on Monday adding that the attack was a message to India that Kashmiri fighters could strike at any sensitive installation across India.

“The terrorists attacked the air base at Pathankot and even after 72 hours, the war hasn’t ended”. NIA chief Sharad Kumar today said there was little doubt that the attackers were from Pakistan.

Sharif also expressed his condolences for the loss of life and said he appreciated the “maturity” shown by the Indian government in the wake of the attack.

“Gen Raheel Sharif, the army’s boss, got a warm embrace from the Pentagon last fall-despite the ISI support for the Afghan Taliban’s offensive against the Kabul government and despite the Pakistani military’s backing of terror groups like JeM”, he said.

The two foreign secretaries, bearing in mind the current security scenario in the region, will not only discuss the issue of terror, but also modalities and other schedule-related aspects in order to carry forward the bilateral dialogue process. “The challenge of terrorism calls for strengthening our resolve to a cooperative approach”. Modi believes that these people may send more terrorists to India in the coming days in order to derail bilateral talks.

He said that he took initiative in normalisation of relations with India and flew to New Delhi to attend the inauguration ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
