Los Angeles worldwide Airport is set to become the largest USA airport to allow popular ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft to pick up passengers at the terminals, following a vote by a local commission on 16 July.

Officials from Los Angeles worldwide Airport will weigh the proposed move at a meeting Thursday.
Prior to voting, commissioners said they supported the agreement, but wanted to be able to closely monitor the performance of the ride-hailing companies. City News Service says final approval would require a vote from the City Council.
“This is a reality”, one supporter of the plan said. Uber and Lyft’s lower-cost auto services, such as UberX, were allowed to drop off passengers but not pick them up.
Under the new agreement, the permits of Uber or Lyft could be revoked with 30 days notice if any problems arise.
Koretz also criticized the airport’s decision in light of a judge’s ruling Wednesday that recommended Uber pay a $7.3 million fine to the California Public Utilities Commission for allegedly violating state laws.
Allowing the companies to pick up passengers at LAX would generate at least $300,000 in revenue for Los Angeles World Airports, the agency that operates LAX, according to a city report.
Mayor Eric Garcetti had promised, during his State of the City speech in April, that Los Angeles would soon allow ridesharing companies to pick up passengers at LAX.
