Van Gaal doubts January transfer business for Manchester United

With Manchester United having failed to score a single first-half goal in their last 10 home games, you can perhaps forgive their fans for failing to be on the edge of their seats.

Paul Scholes launched a fresh attack on Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side following their unimpressive FA Cup win over Sheffield United and claimed the Red Devils players looked “bored”.

John Aldridge gives us his exclusive postcard from Australia, as he scored for a Liverpool legends side featuring Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher in Sydney on Thursday.

One social media shot has proved just how boring things are getting at Old Trafford, with United’s play seemingly more soporific than ever.

“I’ve tried so hard to defend this team but each week it gets harder”, he told BT Sport.

Rooney, United’s attacking talisman for so many years, had only 34 touches and while United made 672 passes, few of them were created to open up Sheffield’s stubborn rearguard.

“I don’t think that we shall do business in January”, he said. We did not move the ball quickly today.

Despite his quiet display throughout the 90 minutes, Rooney stepped up and calmly converted the resulting spot-kick, securing a welcome win for boss Louis van Gaal. “In my eyes it’s not good enough”.

Despite admitting his squad lacks pace on the flanks, Van Gaal does not anticipate any incomings at Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

Scholes did not go as far as to suggest United need to get rid of Van Gaal, but believes a change in approach needs to be taken with regards to tactics.

“His style of football is not suited to Manchester United”.

Van Gaal said that midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger would be assessed following a knee injury ahead of United’s Premier League game at Newcastle United on Tuesday.
