Steelers get last laugh over Bengals in wake of Burfict storm

You could argue that the Palmer game was more disheartening and that there’s recency bias here, but that sequence of events toward the end of Saturday night’s game exposed just how undisciplined the Bengals were after being on their first playoff win in 25 years That’s as bad as it gets. Saturday was a heist – and brilliant theater on the order of a post-modern morality play – perpetrated on national television by the improbably victorious Steelers and their accomplices, the incredibly unlucky Bengals, who helped them get away with it. Somehow though Cincinnati managed to spit in the face of good fortune and hand the game back to Pittsburgh.

Burfict said he did not receive an explanation from reporters. In fact, it looked like he had a game-winning interception at one point before a Jeremy Hill fumble changed things for the team. We had enough chances to win the football game….

That resulted in the ball advancing to the 15-yard line.

In one play, the Bengals gave the Steelers an extra 30 yards thanks to two penalties, moving Pittsburgh from the 47 to the 17.

Bengals defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones went on Instagram to bash the officiating immediately following Sunday’s 18-16 playoffs loss to the Steelers.

The irony of the situation is Burfict would have been a game hero had it not been for the late penalty.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was spotted in the fourth quarter talking to Burfict, trying to calm him down, after Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier leveled running back Gio Bernard, knocking the Bengals running back out of the game.

Roethlisberger deflected talk about his shoulder after the game but did admit that he lost a lot of velocity on his throws on that final drive, when the Steelers had to call a series of short throws. “When we take care of the ball and we get the ball, we’re tough to beat”. Hill losing the fumble and Jones’ outburst were also vintage.

That he does. Bryant reclaimed the highlight reel Saturday, taking an end-around 44 yards and then making an improbable, behind-the-leg catch in the corner of the end zone. If Bryant stays on the right track, the Los Angeles Rams are going to be offering him a 5-year, $100 million contract in a few seasons. “They deemed that to be a hit to the head I guess, and others not today”. For that, there’s nobody to blame but the ass-hat players themselves.

There are likely to be fines (and a possible suspension) handed down by the NFL.
