Tributes paid as Motorhead frontman Lemmy is laid to rest

“He was such a fucking great example of what most of my peers all want to be: Somebody who was true to their school, someone who had more integrity in one finger than a room full of rock n’ rollers, and straight up honest and 100-percent loyal”.

“All things considered he did live his life the way that he wanted to”, he said, adding that the Jack Daniel’s lover was “disappointed” to hear Slash had given up alcohol.

The memorial service, held at the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Los Angeles, was broadcast live on YouTube and watched by more than 280,000 Motörhead fans across the world.

“He wasn’t a religious man and praying for a miracle was something he would have viewed as a delusional act, but he was profoundly spiritual”, said Mr Inder.

He said: “He (Campbell) made sure there’s a line down there and that’s supposed to be speed for Lemmy, he made sure he had a mirror and the whole bit so…do it up Lem”.

“I probably looked at him stunned and he grabbed me by the back of my neck and he said “that’s why you’re flawless for Motorhead”.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave gave an emotional speech at the end of the service, during which he recalled meeting the rocker for the first time more than 20 years ago.

Friends and musicians have paid tribute to Lemmy on Twitter.

A message from the band ahead of the service said: “Wherever you are, please get together and watch the service with fellow Motorheadbangers and friends”.

The death of Motörhead frontman Lemmy was felt throughout the rock and roll world.

Lemmy was known for his penchant for whiskey and cola, but Mr Singerman joked that in recent years, the frontman had “switched to vodka and orange – he thought it was healthier”.

Slash (left), Ozzy Osboune and Shannon Osbourne were among the stars to pay tribute to Lemmy at the singer’s funeral on Saturday.

In perhaps the ultimate tribute, fans have signed a petition calling for one of four newly-discovered super-heavy elements, chemical number 118 in the periodic table, to be named “Lemmium”.
