Actor, Drama: Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”.
The actor, who won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited-Series or TV Movie at the 73rd Golden Globe awards, won for his work in “Mr. Robot”.
A heavily bearded Jim Carrey gave out the award for Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical to The Martian.
The first win of the night Sunday was a slight surprise, with Kate Winslet winning best supporting actress for the Aaron Sorkin-penned, box-office dud “Steve Jobs”.
But unpredictability was the rule in numerous TV categories, as new series and lesser-known actors beat out more established shows and stars for awards.
Best supporting actress in a TV series went to Maura Tierney for Showtime’s “The Affair”, in which she plays a middle-age woman who learns that her husband is cheating on her. The drama, also starring Dominic West, Ruth Wilson and Joshua Jackson, just wrapped its second season.

Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out” won best animated film to cap its run as the most critically praised movie of the year. But as he exited the stage, he failed to acknowledge the film’s co-writer and director Ryan Coogler, who first conceived of the new movie. And crooner Sam Smith accepted the award for best song for “Writing’s On the Wall”, his theme song from the James Bond movie “Spectre”.
The five films are the only Globe best picture nominees in either category to also appear on the Producers Guild of America’s list of 10 best picture nominees announced this past week.
The Hungarian feature Son of Saul, set amid the Auschwitz crematorium, was chosen best foreign language feature.
Tom Hanks, fighting a cold, presented the HFPA’s annual Cecil B. DeMille Award to his Philadelphia co-star Denzel Washington, who invted his wife Pauletta and three of their four children to join him on stage for his acceptance.
