Stallone, Damon, Hamm win early Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globes 2016 promises a night of unflattering punch lines thrown at unsuspecting celebrities care of this year’s host, British comedian Ricky Gervais, who have already apologized in advance for “things I said [in a little while]”.

Sam Smith and his songwriting partner Jimmy Napes slapped each other on the back as they were announced as the winners of best original song for Writing’s On The Wall for the James Bond film Spectre.

Inside Out was named best animated feature film while the best screenplay award was given to Aaron Sorkin for Steve Jobs.

In the best foreign movie category, four European films and one from Latin American are vying for the prize, including Hungarian Holocaust drama “Son of Saul”, and “Mustang”, a French production about the life of subjugation of five Turkish sisters.

Wolf Hall was named best limited series or TV movie by presenters Orlando Bloom and Bryce Dallas Howard. “Blindspot” star Jaimie Alexander somehow hid her own real tattoos in a green gown with a neckline that plunged all the way to the navel as the stars of film and TV arrived Sunday for the Golden Globe Awards.

“I’ll actually let you in on a little secret”, she said backstage after her win.

Best comedy TV series went to Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle”, which won over the HBO heavyweight “Veep”.

Veteran Maura Tierney won a supporting actress for her work as the spurned wife in Showtime’s “The Affair”, a role that required a lot of quiet seething.

Sylvester Stallone may provide another highlight, winning best supporting actor.

Uzo Abuba, who is nominated for best supporting TV actress in for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in Netflix drama Orange Is The New Black said she felt overwhelmed by the occasion.

Some see the Golden Globes, voted on by the 90 or so members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, as predictors of the more prestigious Academy Awards.

Also presenting will be Mel Gibson, who is returning to the Hollywood spotlight after keeping a low profile for nearly a decade, following an explosive drunken-driving arrest and public custody dispute.

Saoirse Ronan, who is nominated in the best actress in a dramatic movie award for Brooklyn, opted for a flowing while gown with a long train, while her fellow nominee Cate Blanchett, who is nominated for Carol, wore a dramatic pink fringed gown.

She said: “I saw it alone in Santa Barbara and was like ‘I can make it in the world!’ You inspired me!”
