China wants Pakistan political parties to settle CPEC differences

During the conference, the speakers emphasised on timely completion of CPEC routes and exhorted the government to address Balochistan’s reservations over the corridor.

The Conference was convened by Balochistan National Party-M chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal with an aim to evolve a political consensus on issues relating to CPEC. “The rights of natural resources and sea ports of the province should be handed over to Balochistan government”, he demanded.

The APC was attended by key political figures, including KP CM Pervez Khattak, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, QWP chief Aftab Sherpao, PkMAP leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, PPP leader Farhatullah Babar, JI leader Liaquat Baloch, PML-N leader Raja Zafarul Haq, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Kh Saad Rafiq, Senate Deputy Chairman and JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, JUI-F’s Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, PML-Q leader Mushahid Hussain and ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Ahmed.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government that draws its support mainly from Punjab came under fierce criticism as political leaders from other parties took the podium at the all parties’ conference on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, accusing the centre of neglecting the small federating units in the multi-billion project.

Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said energy projects worth over $25 billion will be completed under the project.

The APC in its declaration stated that people of Makran should be given priority in employment at Gwadar Port and other mega projects.

“CPEC benefits Pakistan as a whole and will bring development and benefits to the people of the country”, he maintained. “We are ready to work with Pakistani side to actively promote construction of the CPEC projects, and bring tangible benefits to the peoples of the two countries”. Shujaat said that the CPEC project is a great gesture from our time-tested friend China particularly in the prevailing circumstances when Pakistan is fighting internally and externally against terrorism.

Students of various educational institutions on Saturday held a protest demonstration and warned to march on Islamabad if federal government failed to consider original plan of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said the Western route of the CPEC will be built first.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal had earlier claimed that agreements and MoUs under the CPEC were being concealed, adding that without Gwadar there will be no CPEC and Chinese investment. “Maps and agreements (under CPEC) are being hidden”, he added. Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on the occasion said doubts of the stakeholders must be addressed. He said the government had no option but to do justice to run the country’s affairs successfully adding that injustice bred hatred, becoming the main cause of conflicts leading to wars.
